A Woman's Shoulder

A mother's shoulder is the perfect spot
For the head of a sleeping baby,
As it lies secure and relaxed in her embrace
With one tiny arm around her neck.

A young woman's shoulder
Makes a pleasant resting place
For the head of her husband,
As they whisper words of love
And hold each other close.

A woman friend's shoulder
Is a shelter in the time of storm
When needing comfort or encouragement,
To shed bitter tears of tragedy or loss,
Or to share a prayer together.

An old woman's shoulder,
Though it may be stooped,
Is still able to help carry a heavy load of care,
And from that vantage point
A needy heart may learn pearls of wisdom
From the voice of experience
In walking with her God.
