Growing Pains

Learning self-acceptance
As one new insight gains,
By certain "growing rules".
For it hurts to discover
The person that I am,
Acknowledging dependencies
That lie beneath the sham.

Those first few faltering footsteps
On my own uncertain feet
Seemed fraught with hidden danger,
And fear of quick defeat.
But as I totted forward,
Spurred on by a goal,
In spite of fear and failures,
I found peace within my soul

The struggles are rewarded
As each victory is won;
Each bit of reassurance
Just helps to spur me on.
And my confidence increases
As I some growth attain,
Which makes it worth the suffering
Of a little "growing pain."
