True Praise

I'll praise you, Lord, when all of life
Is like a joyful song
And praise you also when it seems
That everything goes wrong.

I'm thankful when I sense your power
And also when I'm weak,
For then I know how much I should
Your Spirit daily seek.

I praise you for your mercy, Lord
Which never has an end,
And for the trials too, which make
Me more on you depend.

For praise should not be limited
To times when praise I feel;
Praise too can spring from heavy hearts
Which know your presence real.

True praise is glorifying you
Sometimes in spite of things;
And praising you for who you are
More praises always brings.
